US Senate advances Russia sanctions bill with proposed 100% tariffs on India, China

USA: The US Senate gave its backing this week to a bipartisan Russia sanctions bill.

This permits President Trump to add as much as 100 percent tariffs to nations like India and China importing Russian oil, gas, and other energy products.

The measure successfully navigated one vote with bipartisan backing this past week but still must gain approval through other procedures prior to becoming statutory legislation that has to be passed by Congress to become law.

A part of the legislation, the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, is attempting to improve financial stress on Russia in relation to the continuing Ukraine war.

Including other Russian officials and other institutions that have gotten into trouble for this Russia/Ukraine combat the bill may empower President Donald Trump to place severe tariffs on nations.

The proponents have maintained the bill aims to diminish Russia’s energy revenue, which will increase financial hardship in Moscow for this invasion.
