Khandagiri Mela to begin from January 25, BMC bans obscene dance

Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today held a preparation meeting for the Khandagiri Mela which is slated to begin from January 25 and conclude on February 7.

The meeting was chaired by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das and was attended by all corporators , Standing Committee members, Yatra Committee members, and officials from the Electricity Department, WATCO, R&B, Police, and BMC officers.

The meeting decided to deploy both male and female security personnel to ensure the safety of the visitors. Besides, it has been decided that more than 100 CCTV cameras will be installed in the mela area and a 24-hour BMC control room will function, with officers from all departments present.

According to the reports, discussions were held on issues like Lord Shiva’s procession and allotment of stalls. Proper arrangements will be made for toilets, drinking water, lighting, and security for Naga Sadhus and devotees. However, entry of street vendors will be restricted.

As per the requirement, health services, mobile toilets, and drinking water facilities will be provided. Police patrolling will also be strengthened.

The Khandagiri Mela preparatory meeting also finalised to allot more space for the pata artists.

At Khandagiri, Jatra performances will be held in 7 Jatra pandals, however, a complete ban has been imposed on obscene dances during the jatras.
