Holiday declared in Sambalpur on June 20 for Sital Sasthi

Sambalpur: The Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC) of Northern Division announced a public holiday on June 20 in Sambalpur district in view of the famous Sital Sasthi festival.

As per the official notification, all government offices, departments, and educational institutions under the Sambalpur sub-division will remain closed on the day of the festival.

The decision follows an earlier notification issued by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Northern Division, confirming the holiday arrangement for the district.

But there will be no holiday in other parts of the district. Kuchinda and Redhakhol sub-districts will be exempted from the public holiday.

Sital Sasthi is one of the most important festivals of Western Odisha, particularly celebrated with great fervour in Sambalpur. It marks the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and is observed with traditional rituals, processions, and cultural programmes.

Meanwhile, elaborate security arrangements have been put in place across Sambalpur city for the smooth and peaceful conduct of the renowned Sital Sasthi festival, with police deploying 80 platoons of security personnel to manage the large influx of devotees.
