Delhi: The death toll in the Old Delhi building collapse has risen to three after rescue teams recovered another body from the debris on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Pankaj Sharma, a 40-year-old worker from Bihar’s Khagaria district.

The three-storey under-construction building collapsed on Thursday morning in Gali Sitara, near Chawri Bazar Metro Station in the Hauz Qazi area. The incident triggered a major rescue operation involving the Delhi Police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

With the latest recovery, five people have been pulled out of the debris so far. Three have died, while two injured workers are undergoing treatment and are reported to be stable. Rescue teams continue to clear the rubble and search for anyone who may still be trapped.

Reports suggest that the building was being constructed without the required approval. An MCD official said no building plan had been sanctioned for the structure. The building reportedly collapsed while the roof slab was being laid on the third floor.

Meanwhile, police have arrested three contractors in connection with the incident. An FIR has been registered over alleged negligence and culpable homicide, and further investigation is underway.
