Odisha rain alert: Red warning for 5 districts as low-pressure system to persist till July 7, watch

Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall lashing several parts of odisha under the influence of a low pressure system formed over the bay of bengal has affected normal life in numerous areas across Odisha.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red warning issued for Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh and Kandhamal districts where isolated extremely heavy rainfall is anticipated.

An orange alert was also sounded for as many as eight districts where it is likely to rain heavily to very heavily.

Seventeen other districts were placed under yellow warning for heavy showers.

The low pressure system over Bay of Bengal would continue to facilitate widespread rain activity across the state till July 7 with isolated places likely to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rain.

Meanwhile, the sea would continue to remain rough. Fishermen are cautioned not to venture into the sea.
