Pune: A 34-year-old woman who had travelled to the UK to pursue an MBA was found dead inside her rented apartment in Pune after secretly returning to India without informing her family.
The deceased has been identified as Mugdha Deshmukh, a native of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
Mugdha had moved to London in July 2025 for higher studies and was also working part-time. Her family remained in contact with her through phone calls and messages, believing she was still living in the UK.
However, she had reportedly returned to India in August 2026 and started living in a rented apartment in the Gahunje area of Pune.
The matter came to light after her family failed to contact her from October 24. Concerned about her whereabouts, her parents contacted a friend in London, who informed them that Mugdha had last communicated with her on October 22.
The friend also approached London police and learnt that Mugdha had left the UK in August.

Her father’s examination of her bank statements revealed several transactions involving food delivery and online service platforms between October 8 and 25.
These transactions indicated that she could be in India. Police subsequently examined her food delivery records and traced an address to the Lodha Belmondo residential complex in Gahunje, where she had been staying.
Police reached the apartment and gained entry with the assistance of a locksmith. Mugdha was found dead inside.
According to investigators, there were no visible external injury marks on her body. She had rented the apartment in April but reportedly started living there after returning from the UK.
Her body was sent for post-mortem examination, and viscera samples were preserved for chemical analysis to establish the exact cause of death.
Police are examining her phone, financial transactions and other available evidence to reconstruct her final days. The circumstances surrounding her return to India and her death remain under investigation.
