Bhubaneswar: In view of the possible impact of the cyclone and the forecast of heavy rainfall, the administrations of Kalahandi and Jagatsinghpur districts in Odisha have ordered the closure of educational institutions as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students.

According to an official order issued by the Kalahandi Collector and District Magistrate on October 26, all government, government-aided and private educational institutions in the district will remain closed on October 28, 2026, following the forecast of heavy rainfall.

The closure will apply to elementary, secondary and higher secondary schools, Odisha Adarsha Vidyalayas (OAVs), Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) and all Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) across Kalahandi district.

The district administration has directed all heads of educational institutions to ensure strict compliance with the order.

However, teachers and other school staff may attend their regular duties and complete pending official work during the closure.

Meanwhile, the Jagatsinghpur district education authorities have also ordered the closure of all government, government-aided and private schools for two days, October 27 and 28, amid fears of heavy rainfall and adverse weather conditions associated with the possible cyclone.

The order applies to primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools throughout Jagatsinghpur district.

All headmasters have been instructed to comply with the closure directive and ensure that the necessary information is communicated to the concerned institutions.

The decisions have been taken as precautionary measures to protect students from possible risks arising from heavy rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions.
