Flood situation worsens in Gujarat, over 22,000 relocated

Gujarat: Monsoon Fury Batters Gujarat; Thousands Evacuated 1,200 Rescued; 3 More Dead

Severe torrential monsoon rain has caused flood conditions in parts of Gujarat, resulting in over 22,000 individuals to be evacuated and 1,200 people have been rescued since Thursday.

Worst-hit districtsValsad and Navsari in Gujarat experienced downpour uninterrupted causing paralysis of life.

The Umbergaon taluka of Valsad received more than 1,200 millimeters of rain in 36 hours – causing massive inundation and overflow of rivers, water logging in rural, urban areas, and also villages are submerged under water.

Teams of National disaster Response Force(NDRF), State disaster response force (SDRF) and the army have been working round the clock for conducting rescue and relief efforts.

IMD predicts heaviest downpours, meanwhile, meteorological officials said red alert is sounded for several districts forecasting further heavy and even torrential showers.

Due to heavy downpour most schools and colleges have been temporarily shut down while residents are continually moving to the camps.

The Prime Minister of India inquired about the condition of the state from CM Gujarat Bhupendra Patel and assured any help needed will be provided by center.
