Man hacked to death in Bhubaneswar, extramarital affair suspected

Bhubaneswar: A man was hacked to death inside a residential apartment complex under Mancheswar police limits in Bhubaneswar, suspecting the murder was linked to a dispute over an alleged extramarital affair.

The deceased has been identified as Sushil Kumar Singh, a resident of Bhubaneswar.

As per reports, Sushil, former Secretary of the apartment was suspected of having an illicit relationship with the wife of the accused Nilakanta Mohanty, leading to a long-standing conflict between the duo husband and wife.

According to preliminary investigation, Singh was returning home from a nearby temple when Mohanty chased him inside the apartment premises and attacked him repeatedly with a knife. Singh sustained fatal injuries and died at the spot.

On receiving information, police reached the scene and started an investigation. The accused has been arrested, and the weapon allegedly used in the crime has been seized.

The body has been sent for postmortem examination. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the murder.
