Aizawl: Three government officials died after their vehicle plunged into a gorge near Aizawl.

The accident took place near Sataek village, around 30 km south of Aizawl, when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge.

The deceased has been identified as Doordarshan Aizawl Director (News) Nampibou Marinmai and Press Information Bureau Additional Director General Engam Pame and  H Lianvela, a multi-tasking staff member of the Central Bureau of Communication field office.

According to the official, the four were returning to Aizawl after planting a tree at Sialsuk village in memory of Pame’s brother, who had died in an accident. Their vehicle veered off the road and fell into the gorge after the driver suddenly felt uneasy and was unable to move his limbs or open his eyes.

The bodies of the three officials were brought to Zoram Medical College and Hospital on Thursday night for postmortem, which is scheduled to be conducted on Friday.

Chief Minister Lalduhoma, Mizo National Front president Zoramthanga and Mizoram Congress unit president Lal Thanzara condoled the deaths on Friday.
