Uttarakhand: At least 7 people died, and 14 others were injured in the THDC hydropower project in Pipalkoti of Chamoli, Uttarakhand, following the sudden flow of water and debris inside a tunnel.

According to sources, around 22 workers were inside the under-construction tunnel of the project when the water suddenly rushed inside.

Several workers were also carried with the water flow up to the exit; however, 14 others were pulled out by the rescue team.

There are still reports of two workers being stuck, who are trying to get into their touch

Rescue work has been undertaken by the NDRF, SDRF, the police and other agencies, and they are working despite continuous flow of water and debris entering the tunnel.

The incident has happened at Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project, construction of which is being handled by Hindustan Construction Company.

Rescue efforts and the situation at site is being assessed by authorities.
