Puri: Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deva has given a strong response to ISKCON’s recent clarification. He said that the Shri Mandira administration will issue a firm written reply tomorrow regarding the matter of untimely Rath Yatra.

The Gajapati stated that the press release issued by ISKCON’s Juhu branch in Mumbai contains completely false and irrelevant information. He clarified that a discussion and debate had taken place at Shri Nahar between scholars from Puri and ISKCON scholars. However, ISKCON is now spreading a completely fabricated story claiming that the Puri scholars lost the debate.

Referring to the past, the Gajapati said that in 1991 he had visited Berlin, Germany at ISKCON’s invitation for a Rath Yatra. At that time he neither praised the Rath Yatra held there nor gave any approval for organizing it. He added that even before 1991, ISKCON was conducting untimely Rath Yatras. After coming to know about it, he personally requested them to stop the practice, first verbally and later repeatedly through written letters.

The Shri Mandira Managing Committee had also informed ISKCON GBC in writing about this issue on several occasions. Despite this, ISKCON continues to organize untimely Snana Yatra and Rath Yatra at various places across the world.
