Disney worker hurt stopping 400lb fake boulder rolling into audience
by Rob Beschizza · Boing BoingFor a Walt Disney World worker trying to stop a runaway boulder from rolling into the crowd, the good news is that it was a fake prop boulder. The bad news is that it still weighed 400 pounds and left him bruised and bloodied.
The man was not seriously injured, though, and may well have saved audience members from worse harm as the "Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular!" boulder picked up momentum after escaping its track. Video was posted online by someone likely to have been struck by the 8ft sphere, had it bounced over the low railing between them and the set.
"We're focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering," Disney said in a statement on Wednesday. "Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened."
TMZ reports that several deaths have occurred at Disney World in recent days: "The Most Magical Place on Earth has been anything but for the last 10 days."
