German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to visit India on January 12–13
by GK NEWS SERVICE · Greater KashmirNew Delhi, Jan 6: At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz will pay an official visit to India from January 12 to 13, 2026. This will be Chancellor Merz’s first official visit to the country. During the visit, he will travel to Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. Prime Minister Modi will receive the German Chancellor in Ahmedabad on January 12.
The two leaders are expected to review the progress of the India–Germany Strategic Partnership, which marked 25 years last year, and discuss ways to further deepen cooperation.
Talks will focus on strengthening collaboration in trade and investment, technology, education, skilling and mobility, as well as expanding engagement in defence and security, science, innovation and research, green and sustainable development, and people-to-people ties. The two leaders will also interact with business and industry representatives and exchange views on key regional and global issues. The visit is expected to build on the momentum of regular high-level engagements between the two countries.
