On National Press Freedom Day, JKCSF urges govt to protect journalistic integrity - Greater Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 16: The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) Saturday pressed the government to come up with a media policy that would keep the misinformation and disinformation in check.

The JKCSF, led by its chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani said, the policy’s focus should be to protect journalistic integrity.

“In today’s digital age, the unchecked spread of misinformation, particularly on social media, poses significant challenges,” said JKCSF in an official handout.

Such a framework would also empower the common man with access to credible and factual information, said the handout.

The proposed policy should promote ethical practices, accountability, and responsibility within the media sector, JKCSF suggested.

The policy must also address the growing concerns of online waywardness while safeguarding the right to free expression, the handout said.

“By doing so, we can create a balanced media environment that serves society’s collective interests,” said the handout.

JKCSF also called on the government, stakeholders in the Media Industry , and civil society to support this initiative, ensuring that journalism remains a beacon of truth and a pillar of democracy.
