New Delhi, Dec 25: President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday released the Constitution of India in the Santhali language, written in the Ol Chiki script, at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Addressing the gathering, the President said it was a moment of pride for the Santhali community, as the translation would enable people to read and understand the Constitution in their own language.

She noted that the release coincides with the centenary year of the Ol Chiki script and appreciated the efforts of the Union Ministry of Law and Justice in bringing out the edition.

Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal were among the dignitaries present. Santhali, one of India’s oldest living languages, was included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution through the 92nd Amendment Act of 2003 and is spoken widely in Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal and Bihar.
