Schools shut in J-K's Poonch as heavy rain lashes region
by GK NEWS SERVICE · Greater KashmirPoonch, Apr 4: All schools in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir will remained closed on Saturday following heavy rainfall across the district, officials said.
According to an official communication issued by the office of the Chief Education Officer (CEO) Poonch, the decision to suspend classwork was taken in view of prevailing weather conditions and on the directions of higher authorities.
“As per directions received from higher authorities, all the schools shall remain closed today on 04-04-2026 due to heavy rain,” the order read.
The closure comes amid widespread rainfall across parts of Jammu and Kashmir triggered by an active western disturbance, leading to a dip in temperatures and disruption of normal life in several areas.
Officials said the precautionary measure was taken to ensure the safety of students and staff, as continuous rain raised concerns over waterlogging, slippery roads and accessibility, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas of the district.
