Kupwara, Dec 22: Two residential houses were damaged in a fire incident that broke out at Manchatir area of Chowkibal in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday evening.

A fire call was received at the District Fire and Emergency Control Room, Kupwara, at around 8:20 PM, following which fire tenders from Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Chowkibal and Kralpora were immediately dispatched to the spot, the officials told local news gathering agency KNC.

Fire tenders had to be halted nearly half a kilometer before reaching the site due to road blockage caused by heavy snowfall since yesterday, resulting in some delay in accessing the affected area, they said.

Despite the challenging conditions, firefighting personnel laid over 30 water hoses during the operation. However, the installation of multiple hoses led to reduced water pressure. Even under these adverse circumstances, the firefighters displayed commendable professionalism and succeeded in bringing the fire under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures, official said.

The firefighting operation was supervised by the In-charge Fire and Emergency Services Chowkibal and Kralpora.

The officials said that cooling operations are currently underway, and the exact cause of the fire will be ascertained after a detailed investigation.
