Police arrest 4 drug peddlers, contraband substance recovered

Srinagar, Apr 07: Continuing its sustained drive against the drug menace, Police have arrested four drug peddlers in Pulwama, Baramulla & Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

In Pulwama, Police achieved a major success during naka checking at Chewekalan. A police party of Police Post Newa, arrested a suspicious individual identified as Gh Hassan Wani, son of Ab Razaq Wani, resident of Chewekalan. During search, 2.300 Kgs of poppy straw concealed in a nylon bag, was recovered from his possession, police statement said.

It also said that in Baramulla, Police arrested two persons during an Area Domination Patrol in the Jal Sahib area of Old Town. The duo, moving from Jal Sahib towards Bag-e-Salam, tried to flee on noticing the police party but were tactfully apprehended. They have been identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat, son of Ghulam Qadir Bhat; and Nisar Ahmad War, son of Abdul Rehman War; both residents of Khwaja Sahib, Old Town Baramulla. During search, 17 grams of brown sugar was recovered from their possession.

Meanwhile in Sopore, during naka checking at Chijhama Crossing, a suspicious individual was intercepted. He has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Parray, son of Mohammad Maqbool Parray, resident of Chijhama Rafiabad. During search, charas-like substance was recovered from his possesion.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.

J&K Police reiterate their zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and reaffirm their commitment to sustained enforcement to safeguard youth and society from the menace of drugs, the statement added.
