J&K UTLBC holds camps in Udhampur, Samba to help people reclaim unclaimed assets
by GK NEWS SERVICE · Greater KashmirSrinagar, Dec 19: As part of the nationwide campaign “Apki Poonji, Apka Adhikar – Your Money, Your Right”, the J&K Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee (UTLBC) on Thursday organised Mega Facilitation Camps in Udhampur and Samba districts to help people trace and reclaim unclaimed financial assets.
The three-month campaign is being implemented by the Department of Financial Services, Union Ministry of Finance, in coordination with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), IRDAI, SEBI and the Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA).
In Udhampur, a district-level camp was organised by the Lead District Office, with Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai as the chief guest.
She lauded the role of banks in returning unclaimed funds to rightful owners, calling the initiative a step towards financial inclusion and customer empowerment. Officials highlighted the campaign’s 3A strategy—Awareness, Accessibility and Action—and urged banks to proactively identify and settle unclaimed accounts. During the camp, 57 claims amounting to Rs 61 lakh were settled on the spot. SBI settled 16 accounts worth Rs 32.50 lakh, while J&K Bank settled 24 accounts involving Rs 24 lakh. Udhampur district has over 54,600 unclaimed accounts worth Rs 16.93 crore.
In Samba, the Lead Bank Office organised a similar camp at Vijaypur, attended by senior officials from RBI, NABARD and various banks. Speakers urged people to update KYC details and regularly operate accounts. Officials said Rs 13.16 crore is lying unclaimed in over 54,600 accounts in the district. Cheques worth Rs 43.15 lakh were distributed among 32 beneficiaries.
Participants at both camps were guided on the RBI’s UDGAM portal, a single-window platform to search unclaimed deposits across banks.
