Police cut off suspected drug driver of stolen car

Police swooped in front of a car and arrested the driver. A witness said that officers used their car to make "tactical contact" with the suspected stolen vehicle, meaning they intentionally got in its way and collided.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of car theft and driving over the drug drive limit in the Bedminster incident this evening (Sunday, June 28). The man, who is in his 30s, was arrested on North Street at approximately 6pm.

Photos appear show a man in a white T-shirt being led away by police after a unmarked police car reportedly made the contact with the suspect's car. Police cars and motorcycles were also spotted on the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police say the arrest relates to a report of a stolen vehicle in Lichfield Avenue, Bristol, at around 8.30am today.

Approached for comment, chief inspector John Shaddick said: “We would like to assure the community this incident is not linked to any ongoing investigations, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
