Police have issued a dispersal order in a Nottinghamshire town centre after a reported wave of violence, criminal damage and antisocial behaviour. The order, which will run from 4pm to midnight on Thursday, November 7, covers nine streets in Kimberley.

Nottinghamshire Police said the crimes centred around the Main Street area, with disorder also reported near the Sainsbury's. The eight-hour order covers Main Street, Newdigate Street, Noel Street, Broomhill Road, Greens Lane, Regent Street, James Street, Chapter Drive, and High Street.

It empowers police to order people to leave the area and return under 16s to their homes. Anyone who fails to leave when directed can be arrested, police said.

Neighbourhood policing sergeant Simon Boyles said: “Over the last two weeks we have received reported incidents of antisocial behaviour, criminal damage, and violence in the Main Street area, as well as disorder taking place around the car park area at the rear of Sainsbury’s and the council car park area in Greens Lane.

“This order is a preventative tool giving us additional powers to prevent, deter, and reduce any disorder and to move people on if they are causing any issues in these areas. We are continuing to take this antisocial behaviour seriously and we will be authorising further dispersal orders to protect our communities if we feel this is necessary.

“Our proactive patrols will continue, and I want to reassure members of the public that we will take appropriate action against individuals who cause safety concerns and misery for local people and businesses.”
