Old Nottingham cinema to be transformed with new market, gym and soft play planned

Signs have gone up at a former Nottingham cinema announcing that a new business will soon be opening in the premises. The former Cavendish Picture House in St Ann's Well Road was previously occupied by I.C. Discounts but is now set to open as Family Mall Market.

There will be a supermarket, a soft play, a gym for women and food options available at the site. It has previously been reported that the ground floor will become Zaytoon Supermarket, whilst the upstairs area will be transformed into a gym just for women.

The second floor will be home to Cosby Soft Play. Hilary Silvester, executive vice-president of the Nottingham Civic Society, has described the new businesses as a "good" use of the building, which has previously been used for the community.

She added: "The building, while not listed nationally, is on the local list of buildings of particular interest. It was, incidentally, opened in 1938 by the star of its first film, actress Googie Withers.

"It is, in fact, the only remaining old building on St Ann's Well Road up as far Donkey Hill, apart from the former St Catharine's Church, and the former King's Hall Methodist Church and shops below."
