Police have cordoned off part of a Nottinghamshire town after a man suffered life-threatening injuries in a stabbing.

Officers arrested a suspect on suspicion of attempted murder after being called to a serious assault on Littleworth in Mansfield at around 9.30pm on Monday, July 13.

The victim sustained potentially life-threatening injuries from a single stab wound, according to Nottinghamshire Police. He remains in hospital.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and possessing Class B drugs around two hours after the incident, police said.

Littleworth is currently closed from Cavendish Street to Great Central Road.

The town street has been full of police officers and patrol vehicles on the morning of Tuesday, July 14.

Detective Inspector James Oakton, of Nottinghamshire Police, said that Mansfield residents should expect to see a "visible police presence" over the next few days, explaining he hoped this would reassure residents.
