Nottingham City Council issues urgent warning over 'free travel' scam
by Joel Moore · NottinghamshireLiveBus and tram passengers have been warned about a 'free travel' scam which is still being shared on social media. Nottingham City Council has has urged people to report a post which claims passengers can get a six-month Robin Hood Card for £2.
Posting to X, the city council's transport team, said: "A free travel scam on social media is still being shared. This is in no way linked to the Robin Hood Card.
"If you see this post on Facebook or X, please report it immediately and do not click on any link. Remember if it looks too good to be true, it probably is."
The scam, posted under the account name 'Public Transport in Nottingham' claims Nottingham City Transport is offering the six-month card to celebrate its anniversary. "Get your new card and enjoy unlimited bus and tram travel in Nottingham and its surroundings for just 6 months, all for just £2," it reads.
"Hurry, only 500 cards are available at the special price! Click the "order" button below to find out more." The scam has been circulating for at least 10 months, with the city council first warning residents about it last March.
The scam is not linked to the Robin Hood Card, which can be used to pay for bus, tram and train services in the Greater Nottingham area.
