Arrests after drone allegedly dropped drugs into Nottinghamshire prison
by Joshua Hartley · NottinghamshireLiveArrests were made after a drone allegedly attempted to drop drugs into a Nottinghamshire prison. Police were called after a small aircraft was reportedly spotted flying near HMP Lowdham Grange at around midnight on Friday, January 10.
Nottinghamshire Police said prison staff found a package on the prison's grounds that included a variety of drugs, a mobile phone and other items. Officers then spotted a vehicle in nearby Woodborough.
A drone was found in the car's boot when it was stopped on Lingwood Lane, according to Nottinghamshire Police. The force added that a bubble wrapped package containing cannabis and mobile phones were also found with the drone, which officers said matched the description of the one seen above the prison.
A 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were both arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs and conveying a prohibited article into a prison. Detective Sergeant Rachel Mayfield, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Taking illicit substances, including drugs, inside a prison is an extremely serious offence that can cause a whole host of risks for both inmates and prison staff alike.
“This is clearly not acceptable, and anyone found to be involved in doing this should expect to find themselves in trouble.”
