Hantavirus scare and more: Letters to the Editor — May 17, 2026
· New York PostHantavirus scare
Stop with the fearmongering about hantavirus (“Ship of Fools,” Betsy McCaughey, PostOpinion, May 14).
The chances of getting sick from this virus are less than getting struck by lightning. Next you will have an article about masks and social distancing.

JD: Find the fraud
It’s good that the federal government is finally serious about Medicaid fraud (“Medicaid warning,” May 14).

I hope this carries over to cover abuse of the system as well. All federal funding should be tied to accurate fraud reporting and investigation. This is our federal tax money, not an endless bank account.
Mayorkas the liar
Despite having testified multiple times under oath to Congress that the US border was “secure,” former Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has now changed his tune expressing regret about the “broken” border (“Ex-DHS big has regrets about border,” May 13).
If I’m not mistaken — isn’t lying to Congress a federal crime punishable by up to five years in prison?
Mayorkas needs to be the first of many of the Biden administration officials who do prison time for gaslighting the American people that the border was secure as they simultaneously allowed millions of world’s most destitute and illiterate peasants into the country.
If the Trump administration wants to rectify this historic dereliction of duty backed by serial lying at the highest level of government with mass deportations, it needs to hold the perpetrators of this treasonous crime accountable.

Moped madness
What is wrong with New York City’s police department? You have perfectly good mopeds and motorcycles and you destroy them, including 5,700 so far this year (“NYPD smashes 200 mopeds,” May 14).
Whatever happened to being environmentally sensitive? How about tearing them apart and recycling the materials?
Better yet, sell them on the open market and make some money, which I am sure the city can surely use.

The unhinged left
Unfortunately the left has become so unhinged that even the attempts on Donald Trump’s life are just ho-hum (“US going after violent leftists,” Miranda Devine, May 14).
The media and Hollywood Trump Derangement Syndrome is palpable and with that come mental sociopathic morons that find it necessary to carry out their ideology. There’s no mystery here on who’s behind this nonsense. As Devine states, the left has to stop coddling these menaces.
The fungus is among us and the Democratic Party is going downhill fast, with few moderates looking to stem the rot. Sen. John Fetterman, a staunch Democrat, sees this and now I’m sure they’ll ostracize him for being realistic.

Fauci skirts jail
The five-year statute of limitations for charging Dr. Anthony Fauci for his Covid crimes has expired, with no word from The White House (“Fauci rap cutoff,” May 12).
So, Fauci will remain comfortable, having beaten the rap, a result that inflames my sense of justice denied.
