6 more Bato dela Rosa firearms surrendered in Cavite
by Renalyn Ramirez · philstarMANILA, Philippines — Six more firearms under Sen. Bato dela Rosa's revoked licenses were voluntarily surrendered to the Philippine National Police in Cavite on Monday, June 22, officials said.
The firearms were turned over by Dela Rosa's legal representative at the senator's house in Silang, Cavite, the PNP said in a statement on Tuesday, June 23.
Dela Rosa's camp has now surrendered 26 of the 117 firearms registered under his name, following the earlier turnover of 20 firearms in Davao City on June 11.
Licenses revoked. The PNP issued the revocation order for Dela Rosa's firearm licenses and registrations on May 27 following a request from the National Bureau of Investigation.
The order required the senator to immediately surrender all 117 firearms under Section 4(g) of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The NBI also asked police to confiscate Dela Rosa's firearms within 48 hours after the revocation order was issued, saying the lawmaker in hiding was "presumed armed and dangerous."
ICC warrant. Dela Rosa has been evading an International Criminal Court arrest warrant over alleged crimes against humanity of murder in connection with his role in the killings under former President Rodrigo Duterte's drug war.
He disappeared from public view in the early hours of May 14, hours after a gun-related incident at the Senate premises. He was last seen with Sen. Robin Padilla in the Senate parking lot.
An obstruction of justice complaint has been filed against Padilla, former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca for allegedly facilitating Dela Rosa's escape.
Authorities are still tracking down Dela Rosa to serve the arrest warrant.
