LIVE: House justice panel tackles impeachment of VP Sara Duterte
by PhilstarLIVE · philstarThe House Committee on Justice on Monday, May 4 is formally adopting its report that found “probable cause” to impeach Vice President Sara Duterte.
The committee’s action formalizes weeks of hearings into a recommendation for impeachment—an essential step to shift the process from panel-level deliberations to House plenary.
Under the Constitution, at least one-third of House members must support the complaint for it to be transmitted to the Senate for trial.
The complaints against Duterte include allegations of misuse of public and intelligence funds, unexplained wealth and threats against top officials. Duterte, who has refused to participate in the hearings, has denied wrongdoing and described the proceedings as politically motivated.
