Teen faces arson charges after baseball team bus goes up in flames in Winnipeg

A teenager has been charged after a charter bus used by a US baseball team was destroyed in a fire near Goldeyes Stadium in Winnipeg early Thursday morning.

Police said officers responded to the blaze around 1:50 AM and found the bus fully engulfed in flames. The vehicle and everything inside it were destroyed.

Investigators allege a bystander spotted someone inside the bus and helped them escape before emergency crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

Two teenagers were taken into custody at the scene. Police later determined the fire had been intentionally set.

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with arson causing damage to property and possession of incendiary material.

Police said she was released on an undertaking and placed in the care of a responsible adult.

CTV News reported the bus had been chartered by the Kane County Cougars, an Illinois-based baseball team visiting Winnipeg to play the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

In a statement, Kane County Cougars vice-president and general manager Curtis Haug said the Goldeyes assisted the team in arranging replacement transport to Fargo, North Dakota, for upcoming games this weekend.
