Minneapolis mass shooting leaves 2 dead, multiple injured including police officers

At least two people have been killed and several others injured, including three police officers, after a mass shooting at a downtown Minneapolis apartment building on Wednesday.

According to CNN, citing officials, the suspected shooter was also found dead.

Police responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at around 4:36 PM local time, Minneapolis Police Sgt. Garrett Parten said at a news conference.

Officers entered the high-rise about three minutes later, where they found wounded victims and heard further gunfire while facing a haze that significantly reduced visibility.

One officer was shot in the leg and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while another underwent surgery.

A third officer was being assessed for a non-life-threatening injury.

Seven patients were taken to a nearby hospital, including one who later died, the City of Minneapolis said on X.

Another victim died at the scene. Three injured people were undergoing surgery for gunshot wounds, CNN affiliate KARE reported.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooter may have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, a law enforcement source told CNN.

Police had reportedly visited the same building earlier Wednesday over a dispute that may have involved an eviction.
