Aziz Ansari stuns SNL audience with surprise return to play Kash Patel
by By Ruqia Shahid · The News InternationalThe episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by Olivia Rodrigo on May 2 focused on political satire regarding the growing controversies surrounding the second Trump administration.
Comedian Aziz Ansari made a surprise return to SNL to portray FBI Director Kash Patel, marking his first appearance on the show since 2017.

In the sketch, Defense Secretary Hegseth, played by Colin Jost, leaned into a persona of “bravado” following recent Congressional testimony and viral TikTok military videos.
The sketch mocked the ongoing war in Iran-which has lasted roughly 60 days in the show’s timeline-with Jost’s Hegseth describing the war as “a movie” and boasting about “sick air raids.”
Ansari’s portrayal of Patel included a viral moment where he joked about being a trailblazer as the first Indian person to suck at their job, contrasting himself against the stereotype of being hardworking and intelligent.
The sketch touched on real-world controversies, including an assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner and rumors regarding Patel’s job security and personal habits.
This continued the 51st season’s trend of using both cast members and celebrity guests to mock the second Trump administration, airing on an episode hosted by Olivia Rodrigo.
“We hit Iran with everything we've got...missiles, bombs, drones and twins. But now we're in a ceasefire — wink,” he said.
A few moments later, a reporter interjected: “But President Trump himself just declared that the war is over.”
“OK, yeah, when he says it, it's cool. And to quote another thing he says, ‘You're fired!’” Jost replied, referencing Trump’s catchphrase on The Apprentice.
“What up? It's K Dot, AKA Kash with the K, AKA the most effective FBI director this country has ever had, Kash Patel!” he declared.
“After the attempted assassination of President Trump — another one — we conducted an investigation that could not have been more thorough,” Ansari said.
FBI Director Kash Patel is facing significant public criticism and internal calls for his removal from the bureau. Patel has filed a lawsuit against The Atlantic regarding a profile that detailed allegations of frequent drinking, and erratic professional behavior.
In a Friday letter to Congress, President Trump declared that hostilities with Iran had officially terminated, noting that there has been no exchange of fire since April 7. This declaration allowed the administration to bypass the 60-day legal deadline for seeking Congressional authorization for the conflict.
Despite claiming the war is over, Trump warned reporters on Saturday that he is prepared to order new military strikes if Iran “misbehaves.”
