Zelenskyy offers Putin meeting at G20: ‘Results matter’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr has signalled the willingness to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin if the latter attended the Group of 20 leaders’ summit scheduled for December.

Speaking to the DW, Zelenskyy highlighted that he would travel to Miami if his Russian counterpart attended the summit.

"Yes, of course. We have to come. We have to meet, to speak and make decisions," he said.

Speaking about the nature of talks that would likely take place, Zelenskyy explained, “"It's not about words. What I will tell him or what he wants to tell me, it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter. [...] Results matter. That's it.”

According to the Ukrainian president, the country is in a better position to negotiate with Russia on ending years-long conflict as Moscow is estimated to be losing more than 30,000 soldiers a month.

"So that’s why we think that we are now in a good position for negotiations," he added.

Earlier this week, Trump administration’s envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff visited Moscow and Kyiv to initiate the peace talks between two countries. Although no breakthrough has been achieved yet, Zelenskyy said the talks were a good signal while not ruling out the resumption of talks in future.

Similarly, the Kremlin also showed the possibility of resuming the US-mediated peace talks with Ukraine without explaining the definite timeline.

The 2026 G20 Leaders' Summit is scheduled to take place from December 14 to December 15, 2026, in Miami, Florida, United States.

Putin has not personally attended a G20 summit since 2019. The Kremlin has so far declined to say whether Putin would go to Miami for the meeting.
