Tucson police arrest five teens after stolen car incident and recover replica handgun

Five teenagers have been arrested in Tucson, Arizona, following a stolen vehicle investigation, with police saying two suspects had 43 previous arrests between them.

According to the Tucson Police Department, the incident happened on September 12 near 29th Street and Craycroft Road after officers located a stolen vehicle.

Police said an aerial unit followed the vehicle to a park, where three of its five occupants fled into a nearby neighbourhood.

Officers, a police K9 unit and the aerial team later located and arrested all five suspects, who were aged between 14 and 16.

Two of the teenagers were on “intensive probation” and had allegedly removed their ankle monitors.

Tucson police said the pair had 43 previous arrests between them, including “many of those for serious offenses.”

Investigators also recovered what police described as a replica handgun.

The five teenagers are facing charges related to auto theft, unlawful flight from law enforcement, burglary and being runaway juveniles. Police said some also had active arrest warrants.

Authorities did not release the teenagers’ names because of their ages.
