Jill Biden rejects claims of ‘cognitive decline’ during Joe Biden’s campaign

Jill Biden firmly denied witnessing any signs that her husband, former President Joe Biden, was in cognitive decline, but she admitted that he was simply slowing down as a candidate for reelection.

In line with the toll of the presidency, she stated that it is a “very intense job” that quickly accelerated the aging process.

CBS Sunday Morning" correspondent Rita Braver asked the former first lady whether she saw signs that her husband was "falling into cognitive decline.”

Jill Biden admitted she was frightened and “scared to death” by his poor performance during the 2024 presidential debate, revealing that her immediate thought on stage was, “ Oh my God, he’s having a stroke.”

“He was the same, the essence of the same Joe Biden, but yeah, he was slowing down. He was getting older. ... It's a very intense job. I think it ages you — quickly," Jill Biden replied, in an interview airing Sunday, May 31, on CBS.

Joe Biden officially dropped out of the presidential race against Trump, exactly 107 days before Election Day.

Jill Biden discussed these topics alongside reflections on her life as First Lady, to coincide with the release of her new book, “ View from the East Wing: A Memoir.”
