Sir Keir Starmer sends solidarity message to Trump after shooting scare

Sir Keir Starmer handed out a message of solidarity to his counterpart, President Donald Trump, after gunfire rocked the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

"These are remarkable scenes. The Prime Minister has, this morning, sent a message to the president of the United States in solidarity for the events that took place," Darren Jones, chief secretary to the PM, tells Sky News.

"As you would imagine, with the visit of His Majesty the King this week, our teams are working closely to ensure that security arrangements are put appropriately in place."

In addition, as King Charles arrived in the US for arguably his most crucial meeting of the year, gunfire panic at the high-profile event rocked Washington, prompting the monarch to relay a private message to President Donald Trump.

The chaos at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, where President Trump was present and reportedly rushed out of the ballroom, has cast a shadow over the monarch's high-stakes visit.

So, scrambling behind the scenes, Charles has issued a fresh, carefully worded statement as they embark on their three-day visit to the US.

"His Majesty is being kept fully informed of developments and is greatly relieved to hear that the President, First Lady and all guests have been unharmed," Buckingham Palace tells GB News.

Despite the shocking event, the statement hints that talks will go ahead on issues that have recently been a source of friction in the US-UK relationship.

"As you would expect, a number of discussions will be taking place throughout the day to discuss with US colleagues and our respective teams to what degree the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact the operational planning for the visit."

As of now, the Charles visit, according to the reports, will go ahead.
