New Zealand has provided updated guidance on who can qualify for its Partner of a Worker Work Visa.

The visa allows eligible partners of certain temporary work visa holders to live and work in New Zealand, provided they meet the required conditions.

Consequenty, Immigration New Zealand has outlined six key requirements prospective applicants must satisfy before submitting their applications.

Requirements for the Partner of a Worker Work Visa

According to the immigration guidance, applicants must:

• Have an eligible partner: The applicant must have a partner who holds an eligible work visa and can support their application.
• Be living with their partner: The couple must be living together in a genuine and stable relationship.
• Have enough money: Applicants must have sufficient funds to support themselves during their stay in New Zealand.
• Meet health requirements: Applicants must be in good health and may be required to undergo medical examinations, depending on their circumstances.
• Meet character requirements: Applicants must be of good character and may need to provide police certificates.
• Have genuine reasons for travelling: Applicants must demonstrate that they genuinely intend to come to New Zealand for the purpose stated in their application.

Living together is an important requirement

The New Zealand immigration rules place particular importance on couples living together in a genuine and stable relationship.

This means applicants cannot rely solely on being married or in a relationship while living separately.

They may need to provide evidence showing that they and their partner share a genuine life together and have lived at the same address.

Evidence of shared living arrangements can help demonstrate the authenticity and stability of the relationship.

Financial, health and character checks

Applicants must also demonstrate that they have enough money to support themselves during their stay.

Health and character requirements also apply. Depending on the applicant's circumstances, they may need to complete medical examinations and provide police clearance certificates.

Immigration authorities will also assess whether applicants have genuine reasons for coming to New Zealand and whether their plans are consistent with the conditions of the visa.

The requirements are intended to ensure that the visa is used by genuine partners of eligible workers who meet New Zealand's immigration conditions.

New Zealand names 57 visa-free countries

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that New Zealand had clarified the conditions attached to its visa-waiver arrangement, which covered passport holders from 57 countries.

The waiver excluded travellers seeking medical treatment and limited stays to a maximum of three months.

Only Mauritius and Seychelles made the African shortlist, leaving major nations such as Ghana, Nigeria and Kenya outside the arrangement.
