Ukraine: Several killed in renewed attacks on Kyiv
· DWAt least seven people were killed when Russian ballistic missiles hit the Ukrainian capital. This follows the large-scale attack on Kyiv last Thursday.
Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, suffered a ballistic missile attack by Russia early Monday, according to the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko.
Local authorities said that at least seven people were killed and 24 more were wounded in the attacks.
Klitschko took to his Telegram channel to say that people could be trapped under the building's rubble between the building's seventh and ninth floors in Kyiv's historic Podil district.
Tymur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's city military administration, said the a residential building in the Podilskyi district partially collapsed.
He also said that several multistory buildings were damaged in the Darnytsia district and that people were believed to be trapped under the rubble.
"These are residential buildings. Places where people slept and lived their ordinary lives," Tkachenko said.
Earlier, Klitschko asked people to seek shelter due to a missile attack, and the city's head of the military administration warned people of incoming ballistic missiles.
Meanwhile, Kyiv regional governor Mykola Kalashnyk said that one person died and 10 others were injured in Bucha, a town near Kyiv, due to Russian attacks.
Kyiv is repeatedly targeted by Russia
Last Thursday, at least 30 people were killed in a series of Russian attacks on Kyiv, bringing the city to announce a day of mourning after one of the heaviest attacks on it this year.
Russia has repeatedly been attacking Ukrainian cities with drones and missiles since its full-scale invasion of its neighboring country, Europe's deadliest conflict since World War II.
US-led mediation attempts have so far failed to bring about a breakthrough, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zenelskyy expected to meet US President Donald Trump at the NATO summit in Turkey next week.
