Berlin pride event canceled after vehicle drives into crowd

Police launched a manhunt after a vehicle struck several people near Berlin's Tiergarten on Saturday night during Pride celebrations, known locally as Christopher Street Day (CSD).

At least one person is dead and 15 people were injured, "some seriously", after a car was suspected of striking a crowd near Berlin's annual Pride event, Christopher Street Day (CSD), on Saturday, police said.

"We believe that a vehicle entered the Tiergarten park and hit several people," police posted on social media.

 The car was abandoned and police said they were conducting an intensive manhunt to find the driver.

They added that multiple officers and Berlin Fire Department rescue crews were deployed to the Tiergarten area.

Pride parade participants told to 'go home, please'

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of Berlin to advocate for tolerance and diversity, culminating in concerts at the Brandenburg Gate.

The event was cut short, and police told participants to "go home, please."

It was not immediately clear whether the incident was intentional or, if so, whether CSD was the target.

The CSD parade ended on 17 June Street, which crosses Berlin's Tiergarten to the Brandenburg Gate. The gate has been the venue for concerts since Friday.
