Brown University: Police responds to active shooting

Police was responding to an active shooting situation in the Rhode Island-based university.

US police was responding to an active shooting situation on Brown University’s campus in Rhode Island.

The shooting was taking place near an engineering building in Providence, according to the school's emergency alert system.

"Lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice."

"There is currently heavy Providence Police and Fire presence on Hope Street near Brown University. Please exercise caution and avoid this area until further notice," Providence Police wrote on X. 

Officials initially said a suspect was in custody, but the school emergency alert system later said "police do not have a suspect in custody and continue to search for suspect(s)."
