United States Senator Lindsey Graham died on Saturday (Jul 11) at the age of 71.

Graham was a prominent Republican senator from South Carolina.

In a statement on his social media pages, his office said that Graham died on Saturday evening "from a brief and sudden illness".

"Senator Graham's family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period."
