by FPA Obituary · FrontPageAfricaMonrovia – Dusty Lawrence Wolokollie, a veteran Liberian politician, former lawmaker, and longtime advocate for governance reform, has died.
According to family sources, Wolokollie died Thursday morning at the 14 Military Hospital in Monrovia.
Wolokollie was a prominent figure in Liberian politics and served as Representative for Montserrado County Electoral District #4 in the House of Representatives. During his tenure in the 52nd Legislature, he chaired the House Standing Committee on Good Governance and Governance Reform and also served as a member of the Pan-African Parliament.
Known for his outspoken political views and strong stance on accountability issues, Wolokollie often stirred debate within the Legislature. In 2006, he faced suspension following controversial remarks regarding the ratification of oil-sharing contracts.
Beyond the Legislature, Wolokollie maintained deep ties with the Liberian People’s Party (LPP), where he served as Chairman. He also held several government positions, including Assistant Minister for Administration and Sector Planning during the early 1980s.
Throughout his career, Wolokollie remained vocal on national governance matters. He notably urged the Board of Trustees of the University of Liberia to adopt competitive vetting processes instead of political considerations in appointing senior administrators.
His political career spanned multiple transitional governments and Liberia’s democratic era, during which he consistently advocated against corruption, promoted transparency, and mentored young Liberians through motivational engagements at schools and public forums.
Family members have yet to announce funeral arrangements.
