The dialogue was aimed at promoting responsible, ethical, and impactful reporting on SRHR across the country.
The event provided a dynamic platform for participants to exchange ideas, share experiences, and deepen their understanding of critical issues, with a strong focus on ethical storytelling and amplifying community voices around SRHR. It also included a panel discussion that guided journalists, bloggers, and content creators on effective ways of reporting sensitive issues.
Practical sessions facilitated by Independent Media Expert Torwon Suluteh Brown emphasized sources gathering, identifying potential SRHR stories, and recognizing their impact on communities. Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on improving media coverage, promoting accurate information, and advancing rights-based narratives. The session concluded with media practitioners, bloggers, and content creators drafting an action plan to support sustainability in SRHR reporting.
“ARN remains committed to building partnerships with the media to foster informed public discourse on issues around SRHR and drive positive change,” Madam Hawa Wilson said.
Meanwhile, participants praised ARN for the opportunity and expressed interest in improving reportage on SRHR-related issues in Liberia.
Sharing his experience, Thompson Kruah of the New Dawn said SRHR is a sensitive issue and that community dwellers sometimes shy away from speaking with men about their experiences. He said the training from ARN gave him accurate knowledge on how to engage such matters.
“It is a good thing for us to learn about SRHR. This dialogue teaches us the way to engage with the community on things concerning SRHR, so that we can ethically report on it,” Kruah said.
Also speaking, Vasta Tarlue of ELBC said the knowledge gained from the discussion would help improve her reportage on SRHR.
The Amplifying Rights Network (ARN) is a coalition of ten diverse community-based and national civil society organizations in Liberia focused on advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). The network facilitates national advocacy, policy reform, and community-level education, particularly for women, youth, and marginalized groups.
ARN works to eliminate barriers to SRHR by promoting access to information, health services, and legal protection. It also advocates against gender-based violence (GBV) and harmful traditional practices.
