PM Modi Cautions Against 'Digital Arrest' In Mann Ki Baat, Lists 3 Ways On How To Be Safe

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday cautioned against the cybercrime of "digital arrest" noting that it has hit all sections of society and urged people to adopt the mantra of "stop, think, and take action" when faced with such a scam. 

Speaking during his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', Modi said probe agencies are working with states to deal with the issue, reminding people that no investigation agency would ever contact by phone or video call for such investigations. He also stressed that awareness is essential in protecting oneself from such crimes. 

He also played a representative video illustrating how such criminals pose officials from probe agencies to prey on people's fear after gathering detailed information about their potential victims.

"Beware of Digital Arrest Fraud. No investigative agency will ever contact you by phone or video call for such an investigation," Modi said, asking people to dial 1930 to connect with the national cyber helpline or connect with its portal and also inform police about such a crime.

He also advised me to record such conversations and take screenshots as he touched on the crime which has been frequently reported. 

During the broadcast, the Prime Minister lauded the increasing impact Indian talents have been making in the world of animation.

A wave of creative energy is sweeping India, he said, adding 'Made in India' and 'Made by India' is shining brightly in the world of animation.

Mentioning Indian animation characters like Chhota Bheem, Krishna, and Motu Patlu, Modi said these characters have become widely popular. Indian content and creativity are being liked across the globe, he noted. 

Modi said India is "on its way to creating a revolution in animation, and Indian games are also getting popular." 

Noting that India's export of defence products has spanned to over 85c countries, Modi attributed it to the effort of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', saying the initiative is making strides in every sector.
