Cyclone Dana Live Updates: Please follow this space for all the latest news and updates on Cyclone Dana. The cyclonic system intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Thursday and began the process of landfall on Thursday night which continued till Friday morning. Gusty winds coupled with heavy rains lashed parts of Odisha including the coastal districts of Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore and nearby Jagatsinghpur district with wind speeds reaching 100 kmph to 110 kmph.

The inclement weather conditions uprooted trees at several places however, there has been no report of any major damage or casualty, according to officials. 

Mrutunjay Mohapatra, Director General, India Meteorological Department said the region where the landfall commenced would witness high-velocity wind at the speed of about 120 kmph till Friday morning. The landfall also accelerated the tidal surge, which could go up to two metres above the astronomical height, in Kendrapada, Balasore and Bhadrak districts, he added. 

The weather department said that light-to-moderate rainfall in most places and heavy-to-very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rainfall (above 21 cm) at isolated places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsingpur Keonjhar, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, Khurda and Puri districts are expected till October 25. 

On Thursday, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah enquired about the Odisha government’s preparedness to tackle the situation arising out of the cyclone.

The CM said that his government was well-prepared  to tackle any situation and took adequate measures to mitigate potential impacts.

“We are well-prepared to face the situation. The water level in Hirakud reservoir and other places are being constantly monitored and managed,” the chief minister said as visited the control room at the Special Relief Commissioner’s office in Bhubaneswar. 

He also said that the state has already evacuated around 5.84 lakh people from the high risk zones located in the low-lying areas of coastal districts.

Cyclone Dana Landfall Live: Bhubaneswar Airport Resumes Operation

Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport resumed operations on Friday morning  as the weather conditions became normal in Odisha's capital city. 

The airport had suspended operation from 5 pm on October 24  in view of cyclone Dana which made landfall between Dhamra and Bhitarkanika from midnight to early morning.

Cyclone Dana Landfall Live: Electricity Restored In Bhadrak, Says ADM

ADM Bhadrak, Shantanu Mohanty said that electricity and other things have been restored in the district while people were already evacuated to cyclone shelters. 

"Fire Services, ODRF and NDRF teams have been moved... There has been a red alert in Bhadrak as heavy rain is expected. We have conveyed the message to the people not to go out...," he added.

Cyclone Dana Landfall Live: Severe Storm Hits Dhamra Port

Cyclone Dana which started its landfall on Thursday night hit Dhamra port on Friday morning. The cyclone started approaching the port at around 2 am on Friday characterised by strong winds and heavy rainfall, reported Ankit Gupta.

Cyclone Dana Landfall Live: People From Evacuated From Vulnerable Places

People were evacuated from vulnerable places and brought to cyclone shelters in several districts of Odisha and Cyclone Dana made landfall on Thursday night. According to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, over 5,00,000 people have been evacuated and the number could reach around 6,00,000 till Friday morning.

Flight operations would resume from 8 am instead of 9 am at Bhubaneswar's Biju Patnaik International Airport, said Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan.
