Cyclone Dana Live Updates: Please follow this space for all the news and latest updates on Cyclone Dana which is expected to make its landfall on Friday. The cyclonic system formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal on Wednesday and is set to bring heavy rainfall in several districts of southern West Bengal including North and South 24 Parganas, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Kolkata, Howrah and Hooghly.

Meanwhile, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Puri districts are expected to mostly bear the brunt of the cyclone in neighbouring Odisha.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the storm is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal and make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha early Friday, reported PTI. The wind speeds are expected to be 120 kmph during this time and fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea.

Over 30 per cent of the targeted 10 lakh people have been evacuated to safe places by Wednesday evening in Odisha, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. He reviewed the government's preparedness for the cyclone and said that steps are being taken to evacuate people from danger zones.

In West Bengal, a total of 13 teams of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in southern districts to respond to emergency situations.

More than 170 express and passenger trains running through South Eastern Railway (SER) jurisdiction have been cancelled and the Eastern Railway will not operate EMU local trains from Sealdah station and Hasnabad sections from 8 pm on October 24 till 10 am on October 25.

68 suburban trains in the Howrah division have also been cancelled by the ER.

Authorities at Kolkata airport also said that flight operations will remain suspended for 15 hours from 6 pm on Thursday in view of the impending cyclone.

“In view of cyclone Dana's impact on the coastal region of West Bengal, including Kolkata, it has been decided to suspend the flight operations from 6 pm on October 24 to 9 am on October 25 due to predicted heavy winds and heavy to very heavy rainfall at Kolkata,” an AAI spokesperson said.
