Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday warned that the weaponisation of critical minerals and technology could hinder shared progress as he addressed the second day of the BRICS Summit 2026, with Chinese President Xi Jinping also present at the summit.

PM Modi highlighted a series of BRICS initiatives aimed at strengthening supply chains, supporting startups and promoting the use of technology in agriculture, while stressing the need for inclusive technology adoption.

“The weaponization of technology and critical minerals could hinder our shared progress,” PM Modi said, adding that BRICS had emphasised inclusivity in the adoption of technology.

He said the focus was on ensuring that technological progress contributes to shared development rather than becoming a barrier to cooperation.

BRICS Supply Chain Framework

PM Modi said the BRICS Logistics Supply Chain Cooperation Framework would help make supply chains more reliable and resilient.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries and improving the resilience of supply networks.

Highlighting the bloc's focus on innovation, PM Modi said, “Under the umbrella of innovation, the BRICS Incubator Network will connect our startups and incubators.”

He also said India had proposed the BRICS Startup Innovation Fund to promote innovative and scalable solutions.

Digital Agriculture To Benefit Farmers

Modi said the BRICS Network on Digital Agriculture would create new opportunities for farmers.

He said artificial intelligence, geospatial technology and digital public infrastructure would be aligned with “the actual needs of farmers” through the initiative.

The prime minister said the initiatives would help BRICS countries use innovation and technology to create new opportunities while ensuring that technological adoption remains inclusive.
