JAMMU, May 18: Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police has inducted over 350 modern vehicles and 685 body-worn cameras to strengthen traffic enforcement, monitoring and road safety across the Union Territory, officials said.

The new fleet includes motorcycles, interceptor vehicles, highway patrol units and cranes aimed at improving field enforcement and highway management. Authorities said more than 1,000 enforcement assets have been procured under road safety funds to enhance operational efficiency.

Among the additions are 213 Pulsar motorcycles, 69 Royal Enfield bikes, 19 interceptor vehicles, 16 Innova highway patrol units, along with cranes and Tata Winger vehicles.

Officials said 685 bodycams have been introduced to improve transparency and accountability during enforcement operations. Additional equipment includes barricades, safety belts, LED batons, jackets, traffic cones, breath analysers and first responder kits.

The department has also fully shifted to a 100 per cent e-challan system for technology-driven enforcement. In 2025, over 52,000 e-challans were issued, compared to around 40,000 in 2024.

Data shows a decline in road accidents over the past three years, dropping from 6,120 in 2023 to 5,287 in 2025, attributed to improved enforcement, infrastructure and awareness measures.
