Cutting Terrorism At Roots
by Northlines · NorthlinesThe statement given by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha that security forces alone cannot defeat terrorism is quite significant as it deserves serious attention of all the stakeholders in the Union Territory. It is a known fact that terrorism is not just a security challenge; rather, it is a social and economic challenge which cannot be overcome by only guns and armed action.
Although military action can weaken the morale of violence mongers, ultimate peace can only be achieved by the support of society as a whole as seen in parts of J&K where people have started rejecting the bogus narratives being spread by the entities being planted by rogue country Pakistan. A deep analysis of the situation particularly in J&K can make it clear that insurgency survives by getting support both financial and moral from parts of society.
It is a hard fact that terror networks get new terrorists in the shape of recruits from local areas and the people harbour and guide them by sharing strategic information thus giving weight to LG Sinha’s stand on roping in the society to eliminate the terror ecosystem fully.
The LG, who has played a vital role in containing terrorism in J&K to a large extent, has rightly called for the combined efforts of the Army, security forces, J&K Police, administration and ordinary citizens to get rid of this scourge.
It is pertinent to mention that the LG has also taken the lead role in curbing drug menace in J&K by initiating Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, which has accomplished the job to a large extent. The adversaries of the country abet illegal narcotics business to fuel terrorism and therefore the efforts by the LG have also put a check on narco-terror networks in J&K.
The people should pay attention to the statement given by the LG as they are the vital link in the process of combating terrorism. They can support the administration by simply remaining alert, reporting suspicious activities and completely isolating those who support terrorism.
The security forces can fight terrorists on the ground, but society must help remove the support system that allows terrorism to brew. The cooperation between law-enforcement agencies and local communities is the key to end terrorism in J&K and for that matter across the country as well.
The role of mentors of the young generation including parents, teachers, religious preachers and politicians is also significant for ensuring that the young people stay away from narcotics, terrorism, separatist ideology and extremist thinking.
If the society will stand like a wall against terror-mongers, half of the job to eliminate terrorism will be done as it would become much more difficult for the terrorists to operate in the region.
All said and done, the need of the hour is to give shape to this ideology and end the terrorism from the soil of J&K once and for all.
