J&K: Schools Closed In Doda, Most Parts Of Kishtwar Due To Inclement Weather

JAMMU, July 29: Authorities on Wednesday ordered the closure of all government and private schools in Doda district and most parts of Kishtwar district as a precautionary measure following persistent rainfall and deteriorating weather conditions, officials said.

While physical classes have been suspended, schools in both districts have been directed to continue teaching through online mode to minimise disruption to academic activities.

Acting on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Doda, ordered the closure of all government and private educational institutions across the district on July 29 to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the prevailing weather conditions.

In neighbouring Kishtwar district, the administration also announced the closure of all government and private schools due to continuous heavy rainfall, slippery road conditions and the risk of shooting stones. However, educational institutions within Kishtwar city, from Malipeth to Cherhar, were exempted from the order and remained open.

Moderate to heavy rainfall lashed the Chenab Valley, including Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts, from around 5 a.m., prompting authorities to closely monitor the situation.

Officials said the precautionary measures were taken in view of the weather forecast predicting continued moderate to heavy rainfall until July 31.

Meanwhile, despite the ongoing rain, the strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, the only all-weather road connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country, remained open for traffic.
